Upcoming Seminars and Dates:
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to own a copy of QuickBooks prior to the class date or do I need to bring my laptop for the class?

A: No,  you don't need your laptop or a copy of QuickBooks. The class is structured so that you can "watch and learn" rather than follow along.

We would also encourage you not to bring your laptop; it is easier if you watch and take notes rather than try to follow along on your own computer due to the fast pace of the class and the wide range of material covered. Hence, we cannot wait for you to catch up if you fall behind.

Q: Can I bring my spouse or one of my employees?

A: Absolutely! Please feel free to bring your spouse and an employee. However, seats are limited and we ask that you be considerate of other attendees if you bring more than 2 guests. We do ask that you register all of the guests so that we can properly accommodate your group (seats are very limited).

Q: What type of lunch is offered?

A: We partner with a small catering company and offer sub sandwiches with a cookie, gourmet chips, and a drink. Our menu offerings are very restricted by the facility. Despite our limited offerings, you will be pleased by our selection.

Q: How can this seminar be "free"?

A: Our firm, Ivan Alvarez, CPA, P.L.L.C, donates time to provide the instruction and sponsors lunch while the Small Business Development Center provides a location and support materials. Its through our joint efforts that we are able to provide the seminar at no cost to attendees.

Q: I am fairly new to accounting and QuickBooks. How advanced is this seminar? What will I learn during the seminar?

A: First, QuickBooks is a tool much like a calculator, hence, not only will we discuss QuickBooks, but we will also give you a very brief introduction to double-entry accounting. We find that a majority of QuickBook's operator errors are due to the user's limited understanding of accounting.

Additionally, this seminar was written for an audience of varied skill levels. We cover QuickBooks and double-entry accounting from a beginner level and progress to an intermediate level. So, no matter where you are in knowledge, you will find the seminar helpful.
